5 Signs That Your Health is Impacting Your Business

This is an amazing time to be in business for oneself! As more women are opening up to the possibilities available by bringing their own unique gifts to the world, more is available to the rest of us. We hire coaches, attend motivational seminars and embrace our own growth, knowing that our business won’t grow farther than we do. We work grueling hours, calling people, blogging, posting on social media, networking and doing follow up.

What about health?

I’m always excited for the arrival of spring and summer. It’s the perfect time to throw open the French doors and entertain outside. It seems like everyone shows up on my doorstep this time of year, and you know me, I’m always up for a party! Anytime is okay in my book for a get together with family & friends to enjoy a good meal.

Rosemary Chicken Sliders

With spring already here and summer just around the corner, it’s time to throw open the French doors and do a little entertaining on the veranda. Whether you have a large back yard or a small apartment balcony, it’s fun to get outside after being cooped up all winter. Small plates and fun food go along with the change of seasons. My sister inspired me to create this recipe after I fell in love with her version when she served them to me earlier this year. They’re festive and small enough to be considered as appetizer, but if you eat a couple or 3, you can easily enjoy them for an entree. I like to make them on the stove top, but if there are any grill masters in the house, have at it. If you choose that method, my only caution would be to cook them on an oiled foil bed as the ground chicken easily sticks to the grill and becomes a nasty mess. I prefer the stove top, thus avoiding any kitchen disasters…isn’t there a tv show about that? Enjoy!

Redefining Medicine

Redefining Medicine – Let’s Take A Serious Look At What The Score Is

If you look at the rising cost of healthcare and the way the nation’s health are going, you have to understand that this “plan” simply isn’t working. Obesity and childhood diabetes are reaching epidemic levels. Heart disease and cancer are ravaging our population. More and more people are getting chronically ill and our current healthcare system is ill-equipped to deal with this crisis.

Why? Well to start, according to the CDC, 90% of today’s illnesses come from stress…yeah stress. Sound familiar? Yeah, its the hectic pace of today’s lifestyles coupled with the top-down debt slavery model cleverly imposed by the Fed and big banks which has people freaking out. Most people are only a couple of months away from being out of their houses, getting their cars repossessed, and, frankly, having nowhere to really turn. Does that make you eat your words when your nasty boss says something disrespectful that you’d otherwise not tolerate? Of course it does.

Meditation has been relegated to another stress management technique in our culture and that’s a tragedy. True mediation means self analysis and honesty about our current situation. It requires us to understand the essence of our being and shows us how to see life differently. That’s not good for an enslaved population- stay asleep and take these pills we’ve got for you…that’ll solve all your problems.

If you look at the disease processes that are killing America, there is one commonality which remains consistent with all of them. They are all diseases of lifestyle. How we eat, exercise, sleep, and manage stress are the critical components in this. To maintain ourVitality, we need to have lifestyle under control.

Until we do so, there really isn’t any form of medical intervention that’s actually going to work to resolve this issue.  We can come up with expensive drugs that have side effects or costly surgeries which offset some of the damage, but, at the end of the day, it is our LIFESTYLEwhich begets our Vitality and it is the lack of Vitality which makes us sick.

Let’s delve into this because it is an argument which is the crux of our redefinition ofhealthcare. Our current medical model is a disease-based model. We kill bugs, we cut out lesions, we shut down systems that are overactive. It is great with trauma and microsurgery but, let’s face it…it has utterly FAILED in keeping our population healthy. By 2020, 20% of our GDP is going into this broken system with no foreseeable end in sight. It is an utter disaster.

But what do we see on TV? Sexy doctors sleeping with each-other in sit-coms. We have “House MD” diagnosing the 1 in a million weird diseases and hailing him as a hero while the system itself is an absolute failure. Don’t get me wrong here…HOUSE is doing his job but the show itself…propaganda people. The medical industry uses lots of this type of propaganda to keep people’s faith in their priests in white coats. Drug companies spend countless millions on ads trying to convince you that their products are the answer to your problems.

Here’s the rub. Most of the medical education in this country is sponsored by these drug companies. The well-intentioned kids going through medical school are so busy pulling all-nighters and being slaves to the fraternity-like system that they don’t have time to think. They come out being drug dealers for the Pharm industry by following their algorithms for care. Even if they realize something is wrong, they are so tied down with student loans that they have to suck it up and follow the money. You want patients? Good- follow our rules and we’ll refer them to you. You’ll have to see 60/day to make a living and you’ll be so tired when you get home from work that you’ll lack the Vitality to think about anything. In fact, from the start of their medical education, they are so beaten and robbed of their Vitality that they lose their point of reference to what true health really is.

So what is true health?

True health is the body’s resilience and Vitality working to offset disease. True health is the homeostatic mechanisms of this miraculous thing called life all working together to function well as a whole system. True health is the connection of mind, body, and spirit and a life that has meaning and purpose. Vitality comes from within. It is the by-product of a robust connection with the Life Force which emanates out of all us. This Life Force is found in plants, minerals, and natural substances that traditional doctors have been using for thousands of years effectively. It can be drawn from the breath and cultivated in practices like Qi Gong and Yoga.

I’m currently filming a Naturopathic doctor who treats the majority of an island population (with horrible diets) with 97% natural medicine at a fraction of the cost and is keeping the whole island healthy. He has health ministers from all over the world consulting with him on how to fix the failing medical systems in their countries. Long story short- the writing is on the wall. Natural medicine is both safe and effective and is exponentially cheaper than conventional medicine.

So here’s the switch- The fact that we call the broken system “Conventional Medicine” and all the natural systems “Alternative Medicine” is also a product of the broken system’s propaganda machine. It is time to redefine these terms and put things in their right place. I propose we call natural medicines (Naturopathy, Acupuncture, Homepathy, Chiropractic, real Osteopathy…) “NATURAL MEDICINE” and I propose we rename conventional medicine “DRUG MEDICINE”. Or how about real “Healthcare” vs. “Sickcare”?

It is time to redefine a broken system that has not served the population well. There’s still plenty of room for these interventions in trauma and acute care but, let’s be real here, the broken system has failed us in primary care. We will be bankrupted by the special interests and lobbies that propagate this lie if we don’t take matters into our own hands. Find a “NATURAL MEDICINE” doctor today and start working on getting your Vitality back. A healthy population is what makes America strong…not a horde of broken slaves.

Let’s wake up our citizenry.

Your Body Blueprint Part 1

Your relationship with yourself is the central template from which all others are formed. Loving yourself is a prerequisite to creating a successful and authentic union with another.

Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott

One of the tools that was pivotal in helping me manifest and manage all my relationships since 1998 was Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott’s book, If Love is a Game, These are the Rules. It was the first time I really understood the concept that how others treated me was a direct result of how I treated myself. When I could stand back and be objective about my behavior toward myself and what messages that sent out to others, I realized that the relationship I had to focus on most to get what I wanted was with myself. If I was not willing to treat myself like a queen, then how could I expect someone else to?

Red Lentil Soup

I love to make food that looks pretty. As of late, I’ve with fallen in love with red lentils & turmeric. Who can resist the orange hue of the lentils and the deep golden color of turmeric? Simply Gorgeous… yet, not just another pretty face. Packed with protein and antioxidants, my Red Lentil Soup is both nutritious and hearty. An extra plus: it’s gluten free and vegan when made with veggie broth. Red lentils don’t need to be soaked overnight so you’ll save a lot of prep time, too. Try this. Make a double batch–it always gets snapped up quickly.

Enjoy!

Alignment Solutions: Chiropractic and Yoga

The philosophical basis of these two disciplines provides a symbiotic relationship that I would love to explore with you.  Understanding these founding principles may expand your mind. Therefore: Warning!  Continue reading with caution.

Chiropractic is one of the largest primary contact health care professions in Canada, with over 7,000 practicing chiropractors treating 4.5 million Canadians annually with drug free, non-invasive, hands-on care.  Chiropractors assess disorders related to the spine, nervous system, and joints of the extremities and diagnose and treat these disorders.

Going Raw

What started out as an experiment 3 years ago has turned into the preferred way of life. One month before my wedding, I decided to eat gluten free to see what effect it had on my body. In 10 days, I was down 4 pounds. Knowing this was water weight only, I was intrigued by the thought that my body was holding onto extra water because of gluten. I pretty much decided on the spot that I didn’t need gluten and I could live without it just fine!

Nancy’s Chicken Soup

The holidays are “the most wonderful time of the year” filled with festive parties, shopping, gift giving, travel, decorating, and family time. ‘Tis the season to celebrate, reflect, spread joy, and connect. Unfortunately it can sometimes be accompanied by unrealistic expectations, loneliness, stress, overwhelm, fatigue and illness.  I must admit, I’m the first one to climb on the roof to put up the lights (really, I am) and I’m not trying to be the “Debbie Downer” girl here, but just keep in mind that with all the parties and overindulgence, it’s good to have a few healthy options in the house to support your emotional & physical well being during this busy season. I recommend making a big pot of my chicken soup to keep on hand when things get crazy. It’s nice to have something warm, yummy, and nutritious to eat in between all the party food. Not only is it tasty and comforting, but will provide you with a good source of protein and veggies to support your health as you take on more than your share “holly jollyness”.  Enjoy!  NN
